The eyes and the way a person smiles are almost like a map to a person's personality. It makes sense that humans would evolve to be able to read this map so they could decide how trustworthy a person is. I think we've largely lost touch with this natural instinct in the modern world though, but many can still sort of tap into it when they feel another person's "vibes" they give off, much of which is in the eyes and smile.
